Disney World is the largest recreational resort in the world, containing four theme parks. Owned and operated by the Walt Disney Parks and Resorts segment of The Walt Disney Company, it is located in Lake Buena Vista and Bay Lake, Florida, outside the city limits of Orlando. In addition to the four main theme parks, the resort contains two water parks, six golf courses, a sports complex, an auto race track, twenty resort hotels and numerous shopping, dining, and entertainment offerings. Construction began in 1967, less than a year after Walt Disney's death. |
Kennedy Space Center is the NASA space vehicle launch facility on Merritt Island. The site is near Cape Canaveral, midway between Miami and Jacksonville. There is a visitor center and public tours are offered. Because much of KSC is off limits to development, the site also serves as an important wildlife sanctuary, with only 9% of the land developed. Kennedy Space Center's only launch operations are at Launch Complex 39. All other launch operations take place at the adjacent Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (CCAFS) which is operated by the U.S. Air Force. |
St. Augustine is a city in St. Johns County, Florida, in the United States. It is the oldest continuously occupied European-established city in the United States. St. Augustine lies in a region of Florida known as The First Coast, which extends from Amelia Island in the north, south to Jacksonville, St. Augustine and Palm Coast . The city is a popular tourist attraction, for the rich Spanish Colonial Revival Style architectural heritage as well as elite 19th century architecture. In 1938 the theme park Marineland opened just south of St. Augustine, becoming one of Florida's first themed parks. |
The Ernest Hemingway House was the residence of author Ernest Hemingway in Key West It is located at 907 Whitehead Street, near a prominent lighthouse close to the Southern coast of the island. On November 24, 1968, it was designated a U.S. National Historic Landmark and is maintained as a public museum. Hemingway resided there from 1931 to 1940 and again from 1951 to 1961. The house stands at an elevation of 16 feet above sea level, but is still the second-highest site on the island. It was originally built by Asa Tift , in 1851 in colonial southern mansion style, out of limestone. |
