Watching a programme called "Something For The Weekend" on BBC2 on Sunday morning I was interested that Tim Lovejoy expressed his annoyance at the overuse of the term "literally" among his peers and acquaintances.

I must admit, this sparked a similar irritation that I have which is the (to me at least) unnecessary use of the term "myself".

"Myself" is a reflexive pronoun as in:

"I would exclude myself, as might others, from the the findings of this board on the grounds that I disagree with them"

It is not an active pronoun as in:

"Myself and others exclude ourselves from the findings of this board on the grounds that we disagree with them"

Am I just being picky?

You could analyse this yourselves by just listening to radio and TV reports to see how often this word is (seemingly to me) misused

Ylou could probably start a whole new thread on misude of words and words that annoy you, but one that annoys me is the 'Absolutely' when used in place of a simple 'yes'. For example, "Are you going to the pub tonight?" "Absolutely".
